Nikolai Borisjuk
Short Bio Sketch
Since July 2024, Dr. Nikolai Borisjuk (Mykola Borysyuk) is a senior researcher at department of Molecular Genetics, Institute of Cell biology and Genetic Engineering Ukrainian Academy of Sciences.
He graduated from the Shevchenko Kiev State University (Kyiv, Ukraine), majoring in microbiology in 1982 and obtained his PhD in molecular biology in 1988. In 1990 Dr. Borisjuk received a prestigious Alexander von Humboldt Fellowship to conduct research at the Tuebingen University in Germany. Since then he continued working at various international research Institutions in Germany, USA, Australia and China. He has published more than sixty peer-reviewed research papers devoted to plant biodiversity, plant genome structure and evolution, plant genetic engineering and stress resistance in prestigious scientific journals such as Nature Biotechnology, PNAS, Biotechnology Advances, Plant Biotechnology Journal etc., authored 4 US Patents and edited 2 books. He taught molecular biology and genetic engineering courses and supervised undergraduate and postgraduate students at the Kiev State University (Kyiv, Ukraine), Institute of Plant Genetics (Gatersleben, Germany), Rutgers University (New Brunswick, USA), Thomas Jefferson University (Philadelphia, USA), University of Adelaide (Adelaide, Australia) and Huaiyin Normal University (Huai’an, China).
His most recent research deals with improving agricultural traits in wheat (13 publications in the last 5 years), genome evolution, biodiversity, stress tolerance and applications of aquatic duckweed plants (14 publications in the last 5 years). According to Scopus, Dr. Borisjuk’s papers have been cited more than 3,000 times with the author’s h-index = 30.
